unable to log to secure sites

I just installed a new hard drive and with the disk utility for the hard drive transfered all that was on the old hard drive to the new. I , also, installed a new ata converter. Everything boots up well but Norton antivirus won't work and I can not log onto any secure sites, even after I lower the security in tools. Did something get crupted in Windows xp or Internet explorer. I can't get email from my computer, even when going to the isp website.

1) Reinstall Norton (or preferably find a different product)
