1) When I set the default folder view to "details", it
often reverts to "icons".

2) Often when trying to delete a downloaded unzipped
file, says "Access Denied". Have to go down one level
and delete that folder, then up to delete the first level.

Any thoughts on these problems? Thanks.

Hi David,
1) When I set the default folder view to "details", it
often reverts to "icons".

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

You can also resolve this with the newest version of TweakUI. Get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, look under explorer/customization, increase the "folders
to remember".
2) Often when trying to delete a downloaded unzipped
file, says "Access Denied". Have to go down one level
and delete that folder, then up to delete the first level.

It's a permissions issue. See this:
