I have Win XP. When I go to 'Turn Off Computer' and then 'turn off' the
computer will shut down but will immediately restart. The only way I can
turn the computer is is manually.
Can someone please help.
PS: I am a senior so please don't use hi-tech language.
Thank you.

When you click the buttons to turn off the computer, windows performs quite
a bit of housekeeping such as shutting down processes and unloading
drivers.

One of these things is not shutting down gracefully and most likely is
causing an error. The default settings in Windows include "restart on
system error" and I think that's what is causing the restart.

If you click on Start> Run and type in eventvwr.msc and click OK, it will
bring up the Event Viewer. Look for yellow and red items that have
date/time stamps that match up to the failed shutdowns. Double click on
these to bring up a more detailed information window. Hopefully there will
be mention of *which* program or driver is not cooperative at shutdown.

This information are the needed clues to start troubleshooting the shutdown
problem.

You might also want to take a look at these pages that concentrate on
shutdown problems and cover additional troubleshooting steps:
