There is a huge delay when I try to attach a file to a mail, why?

I have Outlook 2003. There is a really long delay when I try to pick a file
to attach to an email, or save an attachment to a specific file.

Any ideas as to what I sould do?

Open My Computer and disconnect any mapped drives that show as unavailable.
