Temporary Internet File folder

Windows XP search freezes at the "Local
Settings\Temporary Internet File" folder with the
message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Double-clicking on the same folder causes the same error
message. Deleting all offline content from the delete
temporary internet file facility causes some but not all
files to be deleted (can use "properties" for the folder
to determine this), and does not prevent the error
message.

This folder can't be deleted. Doing a OS repair does not
fix the problem.

Does anyone know how to prevent the error message from
appearing? It is important because I can't use Search
with this problem.

The same error occurs when Control Panel>Internet
Properties>Settings>View Files is selected.

It occurs to me that a simple work-around is to configure
Windows Search so that the Temporary Internet File folder
is never searched. Does anyone know how to do this?

Problem now appears to be solved -- received advice on
another newsgroup. Here's what did it:

-- Turn off windows indexing service;
With the default Category Control Panel:

1. Head to Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select Performance and Maintenance
4. Select Administrator Tools
5. Select Services
6. Select "Indexing Service" (Double Click)
7. Select General Tab
8. In the Startup type: select "Disabled"
9. Select the Ok button to close the panel

If "Performance & Maintenance" does not appear in Control
Panel, find "Indexing Service" at All
Programs>Administrative Tools>Services.
