I have AMD64 processor, XP-sp2 and a dialyup connection. When telephone rings
and computer is powered off, the ring restarts computer. Your help will be
appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

You should check your BIOS's settings to see if your wake up on ring setting
is enabled.
To go into your BIOS you'll have to push either DEL, F1, F10 or some other
key to access your bios while your computer is booting up.
Refer to your motherboard manual to see which key it is to get into your
BIOS. And then look through the settings and see where the wake up on ring
setting is. Also if you're not an experienced computer user you may want to
heed off on editing the settings in the BIOS as it might make your computer
unusable so just please be aware of this before continuing.

Protect Your PC: 3 steps to help ensure your PC is protected
Microsoft wants to help ensure your PC is protected from the latest
Blaster virus, as well as from future threats. Please go to
www.microsoft.com/protect and follow these steps today.

1. Use an Internet Firewall
2. Update Your Computer
3. Use Up-to-Date Antivirus Software

Check your BIOS settings. Wake on Ring is probably enabled in the BIOS
causing this problem.

The Wake On Ring option is enabled in the Bios. This allows for an incoming
fax, say, to bring your pc out of standby mode if you are using your pc as a
fax machine.
You need to enter the Bios and disable this function. I suggest you consult
your pc's user manual for further instructions on entering the bios and the
Bios options. You may have to press the Del button just after booting your
machine or some other combination of keys to enter the bios.
One word of warning. Making alterations to the bios can cause your pc not to
operate properly so make sure you make a note of every alteration you make
so that you can correct the mistake if things don't work correctly
afterward. Also when you exit the bios make sure you click on the Save and
exit option otherwise your changes will not be saved.
