Tasks Saved In PST File vs Hard Disk

I'm using O2010.

I create task and then saved the task to my hard drive and create hyperlinks to the MSG files in my calendar. That is all working OK.

My question is when I open a MSG file (Task), sometimes the save MSG file is saved in my task folder (in the PST file), sometimes it is saved on my hard drive. If saved in my PST file, I simply drag it over to my hard drive.I'm just trying to determine when and why Outlook decides to save the MSG file to the file on my hard drive vs in the PST file.

All of my task MSG files are saved on my hard disk and there are zero in mytask folder.

Thank you.
