Bob;
There may be corrupted data in system Restore.
Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.
I forgot to mention it was only the later dates of August and September that
had problems. Does that make a difference?

Not really.
However, if a System Restore is necessary, use one of the good dates
then turn off/on System Restore to get rid of corrupted data.
Keeping the Restore points is a recipe for disaster.
The infected Restore Points should be gotten rid of immediately if not
sooner.
