My son recently installed the updated MSN Messenger
Plus. Since then, we can't stay on the internet for more
than a few minutes (sometimes much less), before an error
message tells me it is closing off. We also keep getting
a message that repeats itself 3X from n-CASE. This
message says "the system has detected that a 3rd party
application has removed n-CASE possibly without your
consent. This may cuase some programs not to run as
expected. Please choose an option below;
-Reinstall n-CASE so that lyour programs will run as
expected. Requires internet connectivity
-Leave n-CASE un-installed and clean up any settings that
remain
-Remind my later

I haven't run this as I'm not sure of its source.
I then tried System Restore to take it back to the day
before the update, and the message says "Restoration
Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored to -date-
No changes have been made to your computer."
Help!!!
Thanks in advance

Restore is not reliable. It's a marketing gimmick for MS.
You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and then
re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot, turn it
back on.
You still have to deal the problem, it's a crap program,
that half works, half the time.

Do a real backup and get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

System Restore In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

Their problem isn't related to system restore. They have spyware crashing
the system.
FWIW - System restore has saved my butt more than once.

.

Have you done anything to the equipment like insert a new
HD? I had a similar problem (with the restore) and
unplugging the second HD fixed it fine. also this n-case
might have come packaged with your OS. you might want to
do a search on the internet (i'm sure you did that already
but just incase...) for it and try to have in reinstalled.
as for why man may have caused this i'm not too sure.

I have a real backup, I keep it turned off ,waste of time
and space. Have I used it , yeah , when it worked. The
problem is you never know when it will or when it won't.
Heck I distrust it so much I made it my screen name....lol

As I already posted n-case is spyware, data collection software. The op
doesn't want it.

LOL - I use Drive Image 7 to backup as well, but I do keep system restore
running just for the heck of it. Probably not needed and overkill.
