I am running McAfee Virus Professional version and it
says that the file svchost.exe is either infected or
corrupted and to replace it with a new copy. how to do
this?

The specific path to this file would be helpful, as SVCHOST.EXE is a valid Windows file name, but its only found in certain locations, by default.

Its normally found in Windows\System32 and Windows\System32\dllcache. If the reference from McAfee is to any other folder (with the exception of ServicePackFiles) then you don't want this file back.
