svchost.exe & mssys.exe files are infected

I have two files in my Windows folder that are reported by my McAfee VirusScan as infected and cannot be cleaned and should be deleted and replaced. They are svchost.exe & mssys.exe. I am somewhat of a novice so I don't know if there is a simple cure. Can someone help tell me how I can replace these? Where would I get good copies of these?

You do not want copies of these files, they are the
virus

It sounds like you're suggesting that I delete these from my system. Is that right? Aren't they needed...I see a lot of people talking about svchost in this newsgroup. Isn't it a required file?

If I should delete them, how can I do this? I tried to rename them and the system won't let me because they're being used.

Thanks for your help. RichR
