Stopping an Outlook Return Reciept

I have outlook set up to require authorization before
sending a return receipt. I accidently authorized a
return receipt, which was caught by my virus protection
software, so hasn't gone out. Now Outlook keeps
attempting to resend the reciept. Is there a way to stop
the resends? What if this were a virus being stopped by
my virus detection softwarem, would there be a way to stop
it, or would outlook keep trying forever?

You can't delete the return receipt from your Outbox?
