Stereo Headphones

I want to listen to music online from my stereo headphones, but after plugging in there's no sound and the speakers are still playing.

You will want to plug the headphones into the jack that the speakers are
currently plugged into. If you are using the plug on the front of the
computer on the CD-ROM drive, that is specifically for listening to an audio
CD.

I have the same problem but with listening to audio CD's. What kind of
headphones do you need for the CD audio? I have the ones from a walkman.
Aren't they supposed to work?
