Exactly what programs are necessary for startup? I have a long list of
things that are checked when i type run/msconfig/startup but am not sure of
which ones i definitely need and which one i can un-check? In my task
manager when i click on processes.......i have a long list of processes that
are running. Is this the same as my startup? Are they running processes
because they all start when i turn my computer on? Thanx for any
info....Patty

Everything you see in task manager is not in the startup group. Lots
of those are system files. Usually there's a lot of stuff in the startup
group that doesn't need to be there, like Microsoft Office Startup,
TkBell.exe, CD Writer software. Some apps like Adobe Acrobat will put
items in there that don't need to be.
Your antivirus program's items definitely need to be left checked.
Definitely go the the web sites the other people recommended to get a
better understanding.

Processes and Services are a bit different than Startup programs.
Actually, there aren't many that need to be run. Depends on your
preferences. To test Services, go into the msconfig menu and select Hide
all MS Services.

To get a true note of what is being loading via startup, run Doug's Startup
Tracker from here and evaluate:

There are 3 kinds of people: Those who can count & those who can't.

How did you do on the last one?

How did you do on the last one?
You're losing me... last one what? :-)
You talking about... Try x'42' on your fingers. BTW: the person facing
you sees x'42' also?
You answered it for me in email, remember? :-)
Or are you talking about something else :-\
