Start windows using external hard disk linked thru firewire

David L

I have a laptop attached to a large external harddisk thru 1394
interface. Its microsoft OS partitions are recognised in windows
without problems.

I would like to setup one of the external disk partitions so XP can
boot from it, if I start the laptop using a floppy. Unfortunately it
appears firewire is not recognised until windows is fully booted.

I understand some MacIntosh models can boot this way. Is it a matter
of getting a "DOS based" firewire driver to be placed on the boot
floppy so windows can be directed to this harddisk to continue loading
GUI and other components?

Where can I find a generic firewire driver for XP?

Thanks in advance for help.
