I have a problem with sp2. I installed sp2, then about a
month later the power connector on the motherboard went
bad. The board was replaced under warranty, but has a
different BIOS than the original board. Apparently the
new BIOS and SP2 are not happy working together....in
fact the xp will not boot. I loaded diagnostics and
found error code 0F00:0244 Msg Block 51943759 with a
note:"Uncorrectable data error or media is write
protected" I attempted fixboot and various repairs, but
no go. I loaded a new xp in a different folder so I have
access to the programs, but I am unable to locate the sp2
uninstall program. I paged through some registers and
have located (do not recall where) the reference to the
uninstall program, but am unable to do anything with it.
It appears that sp2 placed some kind of security data in
the boot sector and it is in conflict with the new BIOS.
HELP Dell has given up and wants to send a new HD...I
want to save my data. Any ideas (which I will be able to
understand) out there???
