SP2 Sucks!

I have an XP DELL machine with a DSL connection. I have no SpySware or
AdWare issues. I have defragmented, scanned, cleaned up my entire hard
drive. I have disabled Norton AntiVirus 2004 and Norton Internet Security;
yet, I have tried to install SP2 multiple times (at least six dfferent
times). Whenever I install SP2 my system slows to a crawl. As soon as I
uninstall SP2 my system runs again like a well oiled machine. I've given up
trying to install SP2. I have no other software installed that I think of
that could conflict with SP2. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Visit the Dell support site. There you will find downloads to fix your
problem. I suspect your computer is an Inspiron 1150 notebook. That is one
of the worst with this fault.

You didn't mention if you checked the Dell web site for any specific
information about your Dell [ now what was the model Dell computer you
have?] and upgrading to SP2.
I agree, SP2 sucks when it doesn't work and you did everything you were
supposed to do before applying it.
Now what was the model of the Dell you have? Then we can get on with helping
you and rule out what Dell suggested that didn't work.

It could be that SP2 is re-building many file system operations such as
pre-cache and cataloging, which can take 4 or 5 restarts to completely
optimize the system. I would let it start up and do a few restarts of
the computer before giving up on SP2. In the meantime follow the other
suggestions concerning updated drivers from Dell.

Hi

If you have a Dell Inspiron 1150 or 2650, you might get a slow
running system after installing SP2, take a look at this thread
for more on this:
