SP2 installs ok, but stops Microsoft products from opening

When I install SP2 onto my desktop & reboot, everythig seems to work
fine...until I go to open other Microsoft products. Office (Word, excel,
etc...), Messenger, outlook, outlook express, etc... none of them open. They
seem to start up, flash on the screen, then close themselves. I can't even
get Internet Explorer to open. Other, non-Microsoft products, open and work
properly. I have Symantec and have scanned for viruses. Once I remove SP2,
everything works properly again.

Any suggestions?

Open Office?

No office products will open. Excel, Word, nothing. As far as I can tell,
nothing from Microsoft will open. IE, Office, MSN Messenger, etc.. However,
all other products open....my DVD player, games, anything non-Microsoft.
