SOUND not working after restarting.

I have freshly installed the sound drivers for my XP system and checked that they worked correctly.
However, whenever I restart the system, the drivers do not work again.
What can I begin to check to sort this problem out?

The drivers are enabled and compatible with XP as is evident that they work before restarting.

r/click my computer - properties - hardware - device manager.
Any icons with an exclamation mark or question mark?
If so then investigate. The drivers may need reinstalling. Try Windows
update, there may be an updated driver for your sound card

By any chance is your sound device a chipset on the MB?
One of my systems exhibits the same behaviour..all works
well until a restart. The sound device then disappears.
Cold boot and it works like a charm again.
Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller is what is in my
system.
Never been able to update the driver or figure out the
cause.
I submitted the question during a MS webcast on
troubleshooting startup and shutdown issues and it was
suggested that the order the drivers load may be the
cause.
Not sure why they would not load for a restart and will
for a cold boot...go figure.

Hi,
If it was working fine before installing the latest driver then you may
roll back driver and test.

Lost all sound after connected to high speed internet
service Provider/ cable company. NO one seems to be able
to help me. Many advised XP restore feature, one
convinced me to use e-machine Restore C.D. with
disastrous results..Anyone have any ideas? KWturtle
