Sorting Labels

I have over 800 names on my file folder list. I use Avery #5366 labels (30
per page, 2 columns) in a Word document. My challenge is that I add and
delete names from this list often. Is there any way to sort alphabetically
after adding or deleting names?

There is no way to sort the labels themselves. You should convert the labels
to a database that can be used as a mail merge data source. With a little
practice it becomes very easy to generate labels via a mail merge, and you
can easily update the data source and sort it by name, ZIP code, or any
other way needed. To get started, see

Ms. Barnhill is right. But here is how to do it. Inside the sheet where you
have all the names, press Ctrl+A or select all, paste into an excel
spreadsheet. Then click the sort button. Save and use as a mail merge in
Word. Now you have them in sorted in alpha order. If you need to know to
perform a mail merge, read Ms Barnhill’s hyperlink that she provided.

I don't see how this would be any improvement over sorting the raw labels.
The problems with sorting labels are that (a) most labels have more than one
column, but Word can't use more than one column of a table for the primary
sort key (can Excel?), and (b) often users want to sort on last name, ZIP
code, or something other than the first or second word in each cell.

With the data in Excel you can sort buy middle initial if you wanted,
including zip codes. I would then set word fields in the labels and then
merge. With MS Office, just about anything is possible. However, I tend to
try to do things the fastest, easiest, and most accurate way possible.

But you can't use more than one column as the primary sort key, can you?
That's the real issue here.

And not everyone who has Word has Excel.:(
