Some problems with reinstalling WinXP home

I can't access private folders (chosen 'make private'
in ' local sharing and security') created before
reinstalling(not on C, even using admin user! Those
files are not often used, but are also important! Anyone
can help? Thanks!
BTW: I used the HP recovery that came with this HP
pavilion a310 UK. Will this be a problem?

You need to take ownership over the inaccessible folders.
In Home edition you do this in a safe mode boot using info
that you can locate in the Help system, or with a simple
newsgroup search on this newsgroup.
