Sluggish boot up and BSOD

Since yesterday my pc starts up like a snail, verything goes normal in the
beginning, but the Win XP splash screen takes ages.
And this morning, after the splash screen, I got the BSOD, I restarted, an
then the machine managed to boot up (although very slowly again).
The BSOD said : STOP 0x0000008E (0xc00000005,0xF9f6569B,0xF1cB2B6C,
0x0000000)
ubscan.sys FE96569B base at F5E63000 Datestamp 367d8448.
Prior to this happening I installed a whole bunch of Microsoft updates
(officially from the MS site, not from those bogus emails).
Can anyone help me out here ?

I think thats usbscan.sys, the scanner and digital camea driver.

Did you apply/have you applied the usb updates ?
Do you have a scanner or digital camera connected ?
