Hallo friends,

Windows 2000 Professional takes about 4,5 minutes
(270 seconds) to start on my Acer 600 Ter.
Does anybody know how could I speed it up ?
Best regards, Matteo Cirillo

I am having the same problem with my Windows 2000 Professional. I have used
Task Manager during startup and found that one process named hpodev07.exe
uses 100% of the CPU time for about the first 5 minutes of startup time.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what can I do to fix it?

Are you on a network? Do you have a Network Interphase Card
(NIC/Eternet Card)? If you aren't using the NIC (not on a network)
disable the card in the hardware profile. That might help some. Other
than that check your startup services and programs/processes.

It's Hewlett Packard stuff (hpaiodevice). You don't really need any of
that HP stuff starting up with the pc. Disable it.

Okay, I did disable it and the start up went much faster. What problems may
be caused by not starting up the Hewlett Packard stuff?

None that I know of. Of course what I don't know would make a pretty
big book. I really don't know why HP insist on having all these items
startup with the pc. It may make things a tiny bit faster when you
print or want to do "on the fly" scans. Otherwise you won't notice any
differences, your printer will print when you ask it to do so and you
can open the HP software if you want to scan or service the printer.
