slow, slow, slow

peter

i have a p4 - 2ghz, 256mb ram, 20gb hard drive, radeon
7500 graphics card, its nothin to really boast about but
i'm pretty sure my computer meets the requirement for
windows xp home edition. now my problem is, after
installin winxp, every window i try to move, they move
really slow. for example when i open msn messenger and i
try to move it, my mouse moves first, then the msn
messenger screen moves and it makes little trails behind.
if anyone has a solution pls email me or post a message,
thx

Your system does meet the standard requirements but a
recommended xp system specs would be roughly 2.4ghz,
512mb ram, (hd size does not matter, however hd speed
does, 10000rpm recommended), GeForce2+/Radeon 7900 +

That usually happens when there is either a Graphics
conflict or cpu is being heavily used,

Press alt+ctrl+del or right click taskbar and click task
manager, go to performance and make sure your CPU is not
being used over 75%+, Although memory does not have
anything to do with this memory leaks could also slow you
down, Check to make sure you still have over 50mb +
memory.
If your CPU is being heavily used or memory being drained
and you do not know what it is, go to the Process tab,
On there you will see process name, what its being used
by, how much cpu usage it is taking and how much memory
it is using,
Explorer.exe set on realtime priority should take around
100mb max, if its the case set its priority to normal or
above normal, any of the svchost processes should only
take up to 15mb ram Maximum, if they are taking any more
make sure their priority is less then above normal, If
its not above normal you may have a memory leak.

If the files using the cpu usage or memory is not a
system file and you are not using it then close it down
or set its priority to low.

Also go to the ati radeon website and download the latest
driver's for your graphics card, Restart pc, if that
doesnt work then let me know ok

In my opinion, your computer is fine for XP. To fix the window dragging
issue, right click the desktop and click properties. In the box, click
the appearances tab and then click effects. In the next box, make sure
"show window contents while dragging" is NOT checked. Then click OK on
both boxes. Hope this helps.
