slow, slow, slow

So I'm using XP professional, and lately everything has
been functioning extremely slowly or programs won't open
at all (with no error messages to explain it). I'm not
sure what to make of it; it's annoying and I can't get
anything done now. My Internet Explorer won't even open.

Any help is great help.
