Slow browsing

I'm using Internet Explorer 6, with XP, on a cable modem.
Suddenly browsing has been extremely slow. I was told it
could be a browser configuration issue, or that the
program does not disconnect. Any thoughts on how to fix?
 
I am having the exact same problem. Interestingly, I have a laptop on a wireless hub from my router and it is running very fast on the same cable modem. I was told that I may have some program running in the background but I don't notice anything unusual iin Task Manager
