Slaved Drive does not show up in XP but is present in BIOS

I just installed a new drive today on my upgraded XP (from ME) machine and
put the old drive in as a slaved drive to recover some of the data. The BIOS
recognized the drive however XP doesn't know it is there. What should I do?

Rigth click my computer, click "manage" and select "disk management".....

Your drive should show up here but won't have a drive letter - you should be
able to create the drive and format it and assign it a letter from
here........

Uhh, the subject was ability to recover data from the reinstalled hard drive
as slave. You want to partition and format. Nonsense.

I went to disc management and the drive wasn't there. It only showed the
main 'C' drive and the optical drives which didn't contain any discs.

Thanks
