I've just installed Win XP pro. While I'm using the
computer in many different programs and configurations,
ie. in word or on internet or in explorer ect my computer
shuts down with out warning. As if I presed the power
reset button. I've tried new drivers, reloading
everything 3 times, defrag, scandisk.
I am using an AMD K-6 551 MHz, ASUS P5A motherboard,and
ASUS AGP-V3400tnt video Accel.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

Two ways to approach this, but basically you need to figure out what system
error is causing it. WinXP, by default, autorestarts in the event of a
system failure. To figure out what the failure is, use one (or both) of
these methods:

1) Start/run eventvwr.msc and look at the system and application logs. The
Help & Support links within the error message can possibly lead to known
issues and resolutions. Otherwise, make note of the error messages
themselves, they may indicate modules or files involved in the failure.

2) Go to the Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on startup and
recovery settings. Uncheck the system failure option to "Automatically
Restart". This will cause the system to "blue screen" the next time the
error occurs. Make note of the error message before resetting the system and
we can research the error.
