hmm, interesting problem.

create a text file containing this:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

name it "Show Desktop.scf"

and put it in the folder under your profile
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR ACCOUNT\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

Make a new text file in C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and open it with Notepad.

Put this in it with a carriage-return at the end:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file as type in Notepad *.* and enter Quick Launch.scf and Save.

It should turn into the icon you expect and you should see it in the Quick Launch area.

oops sorry Dave.

Thanks Dave and George:

I created the text file OK (as per Dave's reply) and it
does display the desktop icon OK but I "temporarily"
saved it to the Desktop - Reason: I dont have a folder
under my account called "Application
data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

I have Windows 2000 professional. All I have is Cookies,
Desktop, Favourites and Start Menu.

Any thoughts on where I can move the file to would be
appreciated

Eric

.

Explorer|Tools|Folder Options|View, then radio button for "Show hidden files
and folders", then uncheck the box for "Hide protected operating system
files"
