Server 2003 Reinstall. What to look out for?

Hi

I have two 2003 Servers, one is an exchange and one is a dataserver.
need to replace the HDDs in the Dataserver, so I need to take it down
and reinstall it. Both of these servers are Domain Controllers of th
Active Directory. I heard that I need to remove the Active Director
from the Server before I reinstall it. Is this correct?

What else should I be looking for?

Also I cannot do a backup as the HDDs are in a bad condition, and th
backup fails half way to finish. Only option left is to copy the file
to an external location. That I can do, but the permissions wont b
kept. That is pretty sensitive. Any other way to copy files over to a
external place, so that attributes are kept?

Thanks

Benede
