After completely screwing up my Browser, including the inability to download
certain pages and applications, as well as that God-Awful "toolbar" popping
up everytime I surfed to a new page( despite changing Security Settings
REPEATEDLY), I yanked that sorry S.O.B. right OUT of my Control Panel and
System POST HASTE!

To be fair, most Updates are unnoticeable and do thier job(s) well. But
Serv. Pak 2 will NEVER darken my Computer AGAIN.

You are sooooo RIGHT!!..after insatlling that piece of crap i could not even
boot up my pc, had to format my hd..when i did manage to get it to work i
only had 16 bit screen resolution!!

You are in the minority. I've got it running on more than 1000 desktops
on various hardware platforms and have not had a single instance of
failure, fault, corruption, etc...

It pays to be running good quality parts to start with.

Who cares.

Service Pack2 is NOT an update. It's almost an entirely new version of
XP. Perhaps you did not prepare the system properly prior to installing
it. I've installed it on at least 20 systems now with no adverse effects.

Heck, my Mother installed it via dial-up, and her system has Norton and
AOL on it, with no issues.

Keep running without it and your system will become darkened forever due
to the deluge of malware on the net.

Did you make sure you had no viruses and/or parasites on your computer prior to upgrading to
WinXP SP2 ?

That's what you get for NOT having hardware drivers prior to installing the OS. If you had
video drivers when you installed the OS, you would have had no problems.

They are irrelevant to the users with computers ready for SP-2.

Some users may have problems with SP-2 regardless what they do, most have no
problems.

Are you suggesting Linux is problem free?
Are you using Linux now?
If so is that why you seem unable to get a newsreader to function with what
you are using?

Any OS can have problems.
Changing simply because you have a problem is a recipe for problems for
where you end up next.

JUst my two cents worth, I have now upgraded over 500 xp machines to SP2 and
have experienced problems (slight) on 2, its all about preparation and it is
always helpful to have some idea what you are doing and not blaming a service
pack for pc problems, the biggest problems I experience are usually user
related, I use XP 2k, unix, linux among others and have no issues with
windows at all

What does it mean when says that ACCESS IS DENIED but I am the administator
of my PC? I believe that SP2 can help with all of these dern pop-ups and ads
that I am receiving. HELP!!!

Exactly SP2 should not be a problem if you know what you are doing.

Not exactly, Todd, that's where most Users run into more issues than
they had BEFORE installing SP2. The system must be clean of ALL malware
to successfully install SP2.
