Screen saver

I have a new pc and the screen saver doesn't come on with any consistancy.
The problem was evident in the old pc that I transferred my files & setiings
from even though I have adjusted and re-adjusted the settings many times in
the new pc. I have toyed with power settings as well, and still it works when
it feels like it! Suggestions, please.

Screen saver kicks in when it times out with NO interruptions. Installed
software or hardware could be that source of unknown interruption,
causing the "mysterious" time-outs. Hardware- wireless mouse or
keyboard, network card, etc. Software = system or antivirus updates, or
malware. Time to start investigating.

You state you transferred the screensaver files from an old PC on which you
had some problems. You should delete the current screensaver and down-
load a fresh version and reinstall it. Some of the files or the file itself
may
be corrupt.

Hi
Re your conversation on screensavers. I have a screensaver problem I have
been unable to solve. I have upgraded from winme to winxp approx 2 years ago
and I lost a favorite screensaver after the upgrade, and this one is not
listed in the column of screensavers of approx. eleven . My question is...
Would it be possible to reininstall the screensavers I originally had with my
winme disk without reinstalling winme over winxp.
Appreciate if you can supply any positive info on this.
I am sort of a novice at computers.
Thanks

Thanks, Bob, I have finally narrowed it down to the receiver for wireless
keyboard and mouse. It was too close to the monitor and apparently
interrupting the screen saver causing it to time out.

If this is an old 16-bit screen saver, it won't show up in the list.

If the above applies, re-installing the screen saver is of no use.
In that case, the following stunt may help: Rename the screen saver
file. For instance, if that file is named "Twinkle.scr" just rename
to "SSTwinkle.scr" and it should appear in the list. Make sure that
the screen saver file is located in the %windir%\System32 folder.
