I am having problem accessing some of the folders in my
default Personal Folder - some of them cannot be opened.
(I have several personal folders, each corresponding to a
PST file.) For example, when I click the folder, the
following message appears: "Unable to display the folder.
The file C:\Exchange mails\xxx.pst is in use and could not
be accessed. Close any application that is using this
file, and then try again." Some other folders (within the
same Personal Folder corresponding to the same PST file
xxx.pst) are OK. I have many folders and subfolders in the
same PST file, and I have several PST files. One of them
(containing the recent e-mails) is having problem. The
size of PST files ranges from about 160MB to 650MB.

I am also now having problem transferring my Inbox
messages on the Exchange Server to the Personal Folder.
(I set up the Outlook such that the Inbox messages in the
mailbox of the server will not automatically be
transferred to the Inbox in the Personal folder of my PC.)
The error message is: "Can't move the items. The item
could not be moved. It was either already moved or
deleted, or access was denied."

I tried to repair the apparently damaged file xxx.pst with
the utility scanpst.exe (it is dated 7-Nov-1998, in the
folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT).
However, it could not even open the PST file, with the
following error: "An unexpected error prevented access to
this file. Use ScanDisk to check the disk for errors, and
then try using the Inbox Repair Tool again." I also tried
running ScanDisk but it does not help. (I could not find a
program called ScanDisk in WinXP, but if I right click the
C: drive and select Properties, click the Tools tab in the
window, and click the Check Now button, I can run the
utility to check the Hard Disk for errors.)
