Saving search results

Does anyone know a way of saving the results of a
search? I believe that my computer was infected by a
virus contained in an e-mail received. NAV doesn't appear
to recognise the presence of a virus but it manifests
itself by automatically generating outgoing e-mails which
are blocked by AOL, thankfully. I have endeavoured to
identify all files created or modified on the date the e-
mail was received, an enormous task on 120Gb drives, but
I am not able to save sufficient of the search results to
make a proper analysis.

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

If NAV is updated and doesn't find anything then you don't have a virus.
Most likely your seeing bounced or blocked emails telling you they cam from
you and your infected. This is just some spambot/virus generator using your
email address as a return address, thus the virus warning messages get
returned to you even though you didn't send them. Only way to rid yourself
of this is to wait it out or change your email address.

To save a search query
When you complete your search using Search Companion, click the File menu,
and then click Save Search.
In Save in, specify the location where you want to save the search query.
In File name, type a name for the file, and then click Save.
Notes

When you open a search query, it will automatically begin a new search using
the saved search criteria.
If you are searching for printers, and you filter your search results, the
filter criteria will not be saved with the search query.

Hi Wes,

Thanks for your help but it is not quite what I wanted.
I need to save the results not the search arguments. My
search threw up over 5,000 folders/files which matched
the date. To analyse each of these folders/files in turn
takes many hours to do a few hundred. To have to keep
redoing the search after a break also takes considerable
time. I need to paste these folders/files onto a
document (of some sort) so that after a break I can start
from where I left off.

Regards,

Brian

Brian,

What's the virus??
No sense in you searching for it when there are AV programs.

You're doing something that isn't needed and extremly time consuming and
will get you nothing in the end. Just searching for files that had that date
will bring up many, many files because windows and programs access files all
the time. When your AV runs access date stamps on files will change. Doing a
search this way won't find infected files. Like I said if nortons comes up
clean and its updated, then your clean. Those returned emails are because
someone is spoofing the return address in infected emails. They are using
your email address as a return address, thus you get the returned/blocked
emails.
If you did indeed have a virus there will be specific removal instructions
for the virus on www.symantec.com.
