saving docs

-- Hi all.
At the moment I am having problems saving documents in Word (Both 2002 and
2007) There doesn't seem to be a pattern, but sometimes when I try to save a
document I am told that Word cannot complete the saving because it doesn't
have the neccessary permission. I am then left with just a temporary file
which is useless. I have lost two thirds of a novel twice in this was and
have had to start over. Help.

Hi JoAnn.
I tried saving tyhe file to both my hard drive and a flash drive. I was
running Vista RC1 at the time. I have since reverted to XP home and, touch
wood, the problem seems to have gone way, tyhough i would still like to
reinstall Vista.

Never save to removeable media. That can screw a file up quicker than it
takes me to think about whether or not removeable has that second e in it or
not.

New system - not all settings are set yet. ;-) That one is now. No wonder
it didn't flag me.

Vista RC1 wasn't finished yet. It sounds like a problem with the OS
rather than with Word. Use the final version of Vista, install following
best practices to get a clean system (no idea what these may be,
though), and the problem will likely not re-occur.

In the future, don't write novels in beta software without making
copious and frequent backups.
