My home PC which is running Windows XP was infected with
the Sasser Worm. One minute after I connect to the
internet to download the patch the PC re-starts itself. I
cannot download the patch to correct this problem. Any
suggestions how to fix this problem.

Thanks,
gary

If you have Sasser, follow these directions to remove it from your computer.
Follow the steps carefully and do not skip any steps:

I'm having the same problem as Gary. The site you refered to tells us to download the update FIRST. With this worm, it is not possible. I can't stay on the net for more than 50-60 seconds. Will it do any good to run the fix first, then try to download the fix?
Thanks for any help you can give
Phil

Why not turn on your built in firewall, you know it dose
actually stop some things...

Go to network connections, right click your connection,
choose properties, and then go advanced..

Just enable the firewall, get your patch, then disable it
again after.

Hi Carl,

When the pop up comes up stating that your computer is going to reboot,
click Start > Run and type: shutdown -a

This will stop the shut down process.

Greetings --

You've apparently contracted the latest worm, W32.Sasser.Worm,
specifically designed to attack people who do not update their
computers promptly and who do not practice "safe hex." In other
words, like Blaster, this worm was developed and distributed _after_ a
patch for the vulnerability was announced and made publicly available.
Further, and also like Blaster, this worm could not affect any
computer whose user had taken the basic precaution of using a properly
configured firewall.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
