RTF

I have to read some .mcd files but I do not have the program. I've been told that i can read them as RTF files, so I tried to read them with word but it doesen't work.I tried to see if there is any installer of rtf file in the offic cd but nothing. How can I convert and read rtf files?
 
If they are RTF files, either Word or Wordpad will open them without
problem. You may need to rename them *.rtf, though Word usually manages to
sort this kind of thing out for itself.
