I've posted a request for help on quick restoring the state of a system.
Could any one help me? My post is in the address

Thanks in advance,

Rosivaldo.

Your post (in what NG ?) was :

need to divide my HD in three partitions. But I already have Windows XP
installed on it, besides several applications and settings that I don't want
to loose or to do everything again. Since I have no Partition Magic or
similar, what's the best way for backing up my system state and restoring it
after reinstalling Windows XP in a newly created partition?

Thanks in advance,

Rosivaldo.

If you are using NTbackup.exe one needs to select
the entire install drive and also the System State.
I usually tell it to verify the backup and review the
report when it is done.

The issue you need to be vary careful about is that
the partition you restore into after the repartitioning
has the same drive letter as used by the backed-up
system. If this is not so, then you can sometimes get
the restore to work, but too often it is a long struggle.

Thanks, Roger. I'll try your suggestion. My post was in this NG itself. I
thought that the link would suffice. Forgive my mistake.

Best regards,

Rosivaldo.
