How would I report a bug in Windows(Explorer shell GUI)
to Microsoft?
I have currently found 4 bugs, 3 have been tested on 98
and XP, the other just in XP. They all are the same on
any Windows computer.

Bug reports are made through PSS. If you are wrong you'll have to pay to talk to them.

I don't know what you mean by "PSS", and also it
must be free (why would *I* pay to report a bug?!?)

Product Support Services. Because many people claim to find bugs. But as they aren't bugs ... Talking to PSS about a bug is free. But if it's only a bug in your mind then you have to pay.

The e-mail support says: The Product ID number you
entered is for a product that was purchased under an
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) license agreement.
Under this agreement, the original manufacturer of your
computer provides your primary support.
You may contact your OEM for support or choose another
Microsoft support option.

Is there any way to continue? I have another non-oem
copy, but I don't currently know where it is...

I don't want to call, so e-mail is the only optiony.

No. You probably haven't discovered bugs. So many people claim this. 99.9% of the time they are wrong.

I think I saw the other XP copy under a desk in the
basement, how it got there is beyond me...... If only I
could reach it... It's almost 12:00 so I'll try to get it
tomorrow.

1. In any folder, no icons selected: right-clicking any
icon will max-out CPU.(only tested on XP)
2. On a toolbar on the start bar(only tested on Quick
Launch toolbar): Rearanging icons, then dragging a file
into one opens it with the wrong program. Example: Icons
are paint and notepad, draging a text file opens whith
notepad. Switching the icons, the dragging a text file
into *NOTEPAD* cases a "*PAINT* cannot read this file"
error(it has opened with the wrong program!)

And I just remembered a 5th.

They know about 1. Left click first. There's a KB article on it somewhere.

They know about 2. There is a hotfix available. You must ring REPEAT RING (in Americian CALL) them. Ringing/calling requires a telephone. Directions are in the KB. You can only talk about this hotfix for free. Nothing else or you have to pay.

I can't get help to come up with the article on 1. But typing
kbbug explorer left
will bring up 2. There is no hotfix yet for 1.

1. Right Click - HourGlass - Update 817287 and/or 821557

Common behavior if Hotbar is installed. If this is the case, run the edit
listed below:

Hotbar - Windows Explorer/New/Folder Freezes (Line 206)

If this is not the case try these suggestions:

Right click a blank area on the Desktop/Properties/Appearance
/Effects. In the Effects dialog box, click to clear the: "Use the following
Transition effect for menus and tooltips check box, and ok your way out.
And/or: Click the folder or file that you want (select it) before you
right-click it to display the shortcut menu.

Lastly run the two edits on line 157 from here:

2. Have never seen this.

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!

Compose a handwritten letter to Mr. Gates. Send it to Redmond. See what
happens.
