repair connection

Toshiba laptop on cable modem. All SW updated - Norton, Spybot, SP2
etc. PC clean. PC falls off web after just a few minutes.
'Repairing Connection' gives a fault at 'Renewing IP address'. But
connects fine.

seems contradictory. any Thoughts?

Make sure you have nothing checked on Authentication tab of your Network
connection properties. No IEEE, no automatic scripts on the connections tab.
Check with your cable company for correct settings.
