Removing Users

I do not want/need separate users in XP. I am the only
user.

After doing Windows Updates, when I initially boot the
system I have to choose my name as the user before it
fully boots. Also, whenever a certain idle time has
passed, in order to get back to my working screen I need
to choose my name as the user before it returns to my
screen. How do I get rid of these?

My nephew tried but then there appeared a pop-up window
upon booting the system where I had to state my name and
password - a windows thing. I don't want that, so he put
it back to the annoying icon with a person's head and my
name.

How do I put my system back to where it was before my
Windows updates so that I can boot without any security
logon, as well as have idle time without it too?

Thanks!
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

To Disable the Welcome Screen:

1.Go to Start Menu>Run

2. Type this: control userpasswords2

3. Click OK

4. Remove the check next to "Users must enter a user name...."

5. Click OK

Hi,

What you stated was only part 1 of what I need...when I
did what you stated below I rebooted and a pop-up window
appeared with "administrator" as the user and it asked
for a password to continue to logon. I didn't have a
password so it did not let me log on and brought me back
to that user name headshot icon where I had to select my
name. I want to not have that "administrator" pop-up
window to appear either - I want to merely turn on the
system to boot and let it completely boot without me
having to stand over it and enter user names or passwords
(not the head icon or the "administrator" prompt).

Any ideas on what I need to do now?

Thanks!!!
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Try this:

1. Download and install the Tweak UI powertoy from Microsoft from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

2. Open Tweak UI and expand logon (click on the +)

3. Click on Autologon

4. Click in the box next to "log on automatically..."

5. In the User Name box type the user name you want the computer to logon
with

6. If the account has a password, click set password and type it in the
first box and type it again in the second box to confirm.

7. Click OK

8. Click OK again

Kevin,

This worked!
Thank you SO much!

Hi Kevin,

Hey, the previous message you posted helped me with
booting the system...I can now boot the system just fine
without that prompt.

However, still, when I leave my system idle for a few
minutes and my screen saver intializes, so does that same
security message. So, I must click on my name in order
to re-activate the screen I was working on. Do you know
how I can also get rid of that in this situation?

Thanks in advance - you have helped a lot already!

Right-click the desktop and click on Properties. On the Screen Saver tab
uncheck the box that says "On resume, display Welcome Screen" :-)

Right click the Desktop, select Properties, Screen Saver and uncheck On
resume, Show Welcome Screen or On resume, password protect, as appropriate.

Thanks, it worked! I am now all back to the way I want
to be! Thanks for your help!
