I am trying to trouble shot one machine that is running winxp prof but i
can't start into safe mode coz the owner can't remember the password. Is
there any option to remove the password.. I tried remove the battery but
still the password is there is there any option on how to do it? thanks a lot

You can't boot to Safe Mode, but can ( or cannot ) in normal mode ?
Unless manually changed the Administrator account password is null.
Just pressing [Enter] should allow access.

Removing the CMOS Battery only resets BIOS settings to factory
defaults and has no affect on XP or XP accounts.

Did you try leaving the password blank?

Go to http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ and download the boot
disk, this will enable you to reset any system password on an NT class
operating system.

Can you start the system at all? Is this a BIOS password? Or a Windows
Password?

If its a bios password pull the bios battery and then that will clear it; if
its windows password try using another account or reset the password using a
3rd party recovery tool; like passware.

Hi! McCarty,
Thanks for your help. I can not start in normal mode tha'ts why I am trying
to boot in Safe mode. What I know is not a bios password it is a window
password.

Yes Frank, I tried even the administrator account ..blank and pressing enter
but no avail, asking for password.

Thanks Robert. It is a window passwork. How I can obtain the 3rd party
recovery tool? Can I download it? Any idea how much it cost and what website?
Thanks a lot.
