my duaghter's computer became severely infected with 36
viruses and highjack bots. she continually went online and
didn't realize her anti-virus program wasn't activated.
i've tried several virus removal brands, i've gone into
the registry and removed the highjack bots, and i've used
other online resources. but some viruses just won't be
removed and have done a lot of damage! seems like i have
no other choice other than to do a reinstall for her since
her system is corrupt and the viruses are here to stay.

Since XP Home came pre-loaded, I do not have the XP disk
to do a reinstall. Where does one go to to accomplish a
reinstall or does any one have other suggestions?

thanks

Computer manufacturers who preinstall Windows XP are required to
provide a method to repair or reinstall the Windows XP operating system.
Contact the manufacturer of your PC and ask them what procedure to follow.
What does your PC manufacturer's User's Guide say about this subject?

download spybot if the spyware will let you at
safer-networking.org and scan for garbage in the system.
next take the computer away......and watch her hate you
forever for teaching her what scum there is in the world...
and reactivate your antivirus and update and scan if
all else fails use the locked partition to make 5 recovery
cd's in start programs, "your computer manufacturer" ,then
recovery cd creater

Although XP was pre-loaded, the maker of the computer should have
provided some way to recover the operating system. Ask your daughter
if she has a set of recovery disks that came with the machine. Or
consult her computer manual to see if recovery can be accomplished
from a hidden partition on the hard drive. Usually that option can be
selected during the boot up process by pressing a certain key.

If xp home came preinstalled, then you should have a
recovery disk that came with the computer. Is it an HP or
Compac or what. If you don't have the recovery disk, them
you should be able to contact the manufacturer of the
computer and get one from them. I'll tell you this, there
is no xp OS disk available for computers that come with
preinstalled software. good luck. Next time check the
virus software management to make sure virus protection is
activated.
