Hi,

I bought XP (the home edition) but I never had to use it until now. Now I have discovered that I don't have the registrationkey anymore. I don't think I got it at all.
What can I do? The company I bought it at, is gone. Is it possible that I send the CD to Microsoft so they can verify this?

If your version is OEM there is nothing you can do if you lost the Key. It
would be on a sticker with the OEM disk. If you bought a retail boxed
version the Key would be on a orange sticker inside the cardboard folder the
disk came in. If it is the retail version and you lost the folder check
here:
How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware

Microsoft can't help you if your XP is OEM.

Hi,

If it is a retail CD, call MS at 1-800-426-9400

If this was an OEM version being sold by a company that has gone out of
business, then you may be out of luck. Support for these distributions is
from the vendor. I would call the above number anyways, you've got nothing
to lose. They may be able to track who (or if anyone) took over support for
that vendor. Worst that can happen is nothing.
