Registration/activation

I recently purchased a laptop from a family member. It
has Windows XP on it and is registered in the other
person's name. I would like to change the registration
info to my name.

How can this be done? Also, will this change the registry
to reflect the new user name info?

Will has answered your question, but I wanted to add the
following point:

If I acquired a used computer (even from a family member), the
first thing I would do with it is reinstall the operating system
cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained,
what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what
viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live
with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddie
porn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do either.
