Registering Problem

I have a computer with Windows XP Home installed. I had to upgrade my Bios
so I could get my graphics card and new cpu to operate correctly.
Unfortunately now I am always being prompted to register windows and when I
try to I keep getting a connection error. My computer did not come with a
Windows XP cdrom and I only have a recovery disk but this too gives me the
same error when I re-insall. Support for the computer is no use as they keep
telling me they cant send out a windows XP cd rom. All I want to know is
What files could I replace to make it a full OEM version that doesnt check
for bios versions and will let me use my own XP serial No. I know you can
make XP home to pro by changing about 15 meg of files so what ones would
work to make my XP home accept my new bios version. I dont see why I have to
buy a new XP cdrom when all I have done so far is update my bios from
version 1.8 to 1.9. I cant even install my new video card or cpu.

A computer manufacturer's Restore CD will only work when
the computer's original hardware configuration is installed.
Since you have made hardware changes, the Restore CD is
now useless. You cannot change any files to make it a
conventional Windows XP CD.

The only thing you can do is purchase a "Full Version" of
Windows XP, reformat your drive and install it.

Or you can return your computer's hardware configuration
to its original factory condition and then use your Restore CD.

I cant return my computer to factory defaults as £500 worth of upgrades are
useless. It seems a bit unfair that I can upgrade the computer with various
hardware but cant upgrade my bios. I have found out the files I need to
change and copied them from a friends cd and ~I am in the process of making
a retail OEM version of windows xp home. The test done from the hard drive
show it is accepting my licence key and I should be able to install it no
problems. Its amazing what you can find on google.

Well, its doubtful you'll be able to "activate" once you install.
At least you can use your computer for thirty days.

Got it finished and installed. Net connection still didnt work but
registered by phone no problem. All up and running with my new Radeon 9800XT
and Athlon 3000xp. Now to wait for my Half life 2 to be delivered (whenever
they get round to that). Off to benchmark
