regedit.exe versus ???

In the past with XP I've used the "Start/run" and typed
in something to get a menu type interface between myself
and the register making it very easy to change some of
the options. I'm thinking it begun with a "m",
like "mcconfit" (probably not even close). Any idea what
it is?

You are I think wanting MSConfig - and especially the Startup page where
you can control the automatic loading of items at startup
