MS Regcleaner.exe is no longer available from MS. What's the best method to
scrub XP?

sh

RegClean should not be used with Windows XP. Microsoft no longer
supports RegClean as it is not compatible with Windows XP. If you
need a Windows XP approved registry/optimizer program, then try
System Mechanic (www.iolo.com).

There are a few free registry cleaners available, but if something
goes wrong, there is zero support.

Reg Mech sounds pretty comprehenisve but rather pricey for someone that jsut
wants to dust the acumulating junk inthe reg.

Wonder why MS didn't provide this function as part of the system nthe first
place ?????

Thanks,

jv16 is not free anymore, and it is rather complicated too.
It may be technically very good, but it is missing a user-friendly
interface.
