recovery disk

Not real knowledgeable w/computer tech, but will try my best to explain my problem. Computer "died" and did system recovery according to the help/support online. Some things did not restore. Lost all capabilities of using MS Word and like software. Error report saying there is no java script. Contact HP support and they told me to reinstall using the recovery disk. Never received one. My computer came with software loaded (office software bundle) and the use of system recovery. Is there a download out there that I can get without having to send away and paying for a disk for a system that I already should have?

There is no download.
HP is your source.
HP normally provides restore through a hidden partition on the hard
drive.
Microsoft can not provide media for OEM computers.

HP should have had a recovery disk included with your system. If you bought
"off the shelf" it is possible it could have been a returned item and the
original purchaser did not repack the disk with the system. What did HP tell
you when you said you didn't get the disk? They should, at the very least,
send you a no-cost recovery disk for your system. That is my main concern
about off the shelf systems. They are like a box of chocolates.......:)

Ed;
Unless HP has changed, there are no CDs, recovery or otherwise
provided, just the hidden recovery partition.
However HP will sell the CD, about $20 last I heard.

I just bought a HP pc a few months ago and it had an option in the programs
menu under PC help and tools to make a set of recovery disks. It will allow
you to make only one set in case you need them. I made the set but haven't
had to use them. I've been able to recover from the hidden partition so far.
