This is a problem I'm having with XP pro and CDR media. I've got the
same problem on two different machines both with all the service packs
and hotfixes installed.

If I read a CDR on the XP machine, then take it out of that machine,
write some files on the disc with another machine (W98), enable
reading of the disc on all types of CD drives, then put it back in the
XP machine, the new files are not visible. Refresh=no help. Nothing
that I've done will help short of a reboot. Knowledge Base article
214770 does not address this problem because this is the same disc.

Russ, if you do find a solution, please e-mail me. I can
get all the files in Win98 but not on XP. I plan to talk
with the folks at Microsoft to see if this can be
resolved. I have a lot of files that I saved on CD-RW
using my Win98 OS and now, I can't see them on XP!!!
What gives???

Are you recording to the disc using UDF packet writing software such as
Nero's InCD or Roxio DirectCD? If so, you will need to install an XP
compatible version of the relevant UDF reader on XP before you will be able
to read the disc. Simply enabling the reading of the CD on all CD drives
may not be enough...

Thanks Lorne. Did they dumb down XP? I don't remember having this
problem with prior versions.

What software did you use on the 98 machine? It would have to be one of
the 'mastering' packages - eg Nero or Easy CD, and you would have had
to use it to 'Continue multisession disk', or first 'Import session',
depending on which .

I used the software that came with the drive - Hewlett Packard CD
Writer.

I found that if I insert a different disc, read it, then put the
orginal disc back in, XP will recognize the new files. Win Explorer
is not reading the disc's contents each time, but is relying on a past
read. That would be ok, but logically I would think that a
View/Refresh would make the app read it again, which it won't do.
